CLASSIFICATION

Why do athletes need to be classified?
Classification helps to define which athletes are eligible to compete in each of the sports. It also helps to ensure a level playing field by grouping athletes into classes based on their ability to perform a certain activity.

How are athletes' classifications defined at the Angel City Games?
Every athlete competing in Track and/or Field at the Angel City Games will need to go through an evaluation if they have not already. Classification appointments will be conducted by authorized technical officials called "classifiers," with more details in the Registration form. It is a long-term and in some cases ongoing process which takes place at all major events, before and during competition.

How does classification work?
Classifiers assess the athlete's physical disability and how it impacts their ability to perform certain functions in the sport. After each evaluation the athletes are assigned a sport class. For more detailed information on classification, visit US Paralympics website.
